We broke the news earlier on twitter, but figured we should blog about it as well.

We have gotten a super awesome guest speaker for the event. So, there will be an additional talk after break but we promise it will be worth it.

So, aside from being just over a week away, we got you all a big name guest speaker to be excited about.

Have fun and we look forward to meeting you all next week!

Thank you all again!  The response has been amazing for our first event and it’s less than 2 weeks away!  Unfortunately, we couldn’t accommodate everyone that wanted to attend.  So to assure that you make it in for our next event we are organizing a mailing list.  If you have tickets for the current event or are a sponsor we have your contact information.  But if you are one of those folks that wanted to attend but didn’t get a chance to register for a ticket before they sold out, please send us your e-mail information.  We will add you to our mailing list for the next event.

This will assure that you are notified about the dates and details for Ignite Spatial NoCo #2.  Of course we will blitz Twitter, LinkedIn and the GISCO boards prior to #2, so you’ll be sure to see it.

Send your information to ignitespatialnoco@gmail.com

 Cheers!

Ignite Spatial NoCo is a Success! Yes, I know we haven’t even had the event yet, but I think I can attest to the fact that you as a Geo-Community have come out with an overwhelming response to our call. We sold out the evening of 200 tickets in less than 15 days and have had a tremendous amount of sponsor support. We also have a great line up of 12 presentations for you to enjoy! For that I wanted to say;

THANK YOU!

We could not have done this without you. All that is left is to get together and enjoy the evening. Well, actually there is a lot left to do, but that is our job now. Please watch this blog for updates on the final agenda which should arrive on Tuesday April 20th.

Great News!!

Yesterday we had a planning meeting for the event, and it went GREAT!  We’ve got contests, lots of giveaways, free booze, oh, yea, and some great talk submissions!  We were all rather excited, until someone pointed out the fact that we were on the hook for hosting a party for around 250 people.  Sort of sobering, but exciting thought.  There’s still lots to be done behind the scenes to make sure that this event is a success, but you can rest easy that we will make sure it’s done.

We were also able to see the venue for the event yesterday, and I must say, it was impressive. I’ve never been up there before, and I was absolutely blown away.  It’s above the Rio Grande Mexican Restaraunt in Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado. (You will need to use the door just to the west of the main Rio door.  Dont worry, we will have plenty of signs outside).  So, without further ado, here are some pictures of our venue.

You can also choose to show up to the event in style by showing up in an Ignite Spatial T-Shirt.  You can get one here, and if you do, make sure to wear it to the event!

So now that you’ve seen the venue, remember you have free mini margs and plenty of appetizers coming with your ticket, as well as the chance to win some great prizes, including

Historic Map of Colorado

  • Phone Cases for your Smart Phone from Otter Box
  • And More!!!

Finally, if you’d like to give a talk at the event, there’s plenty of ways you can get in touch with us.  Send us an email ignitespatialnoco [at] gmail [dot] com. Find us on twitter ( @ignitespatial ) and send us a Direct Message, or download the form here

Of course, we can’t forget to thank our sponsors:

As you all can tell from the title, the event is sold out.  Tickets were on sale for about 2 weeks, and the went faster than I thought they would.  So, what does that mean for you, the person who was slightly too busy to get tickets before they were all claimed?

Well, I’m glad you asked, and we can honestly say that not all is lost.  We’ve opened up a waiting list, and you can put yourself on there.  The waiting list can be found at our eventbrite site.  Sign up for a ticket, and if there’s enough interest and space available, we may be able to get you in to the hottest spatially themed event in Northern Colorado (I dont know if we win that award by default, but hey, we’ll take it).

Now, for those of you that do have a ticket and would like to get more involved in the event, but are not quite sure what to do, you should consider presenting on a spatially themed topic of your choice.  We would love to look over your submission and can potentially include with the great submissions we have gotten so far.  If you’re interested, you can download our speaker submission form here, and when you’re finished, you can email it to ignitespatialnoco [at] gmail [dot] com .

An idea takes a life of its own, “Why don’t we have an Ignite event with a GIS focus?”

“Yes!”, “Great”, “Just like Boston and Perth.”

Now what do we do??

1.) Put someone in charge, even if they don’t want to be.

2.)  Talk to folks who have put on successful Ignite events already.

  • Picked the brains of the Ignite Fort Collins team, special thanks to @feistywoman Ava Diamond for all the advice and information.
  • #1 piece of advice – ‘Get a Team’
  • #2 find a venue that will work with you and fit your needs
  • #3 get to work fast, you don’t have much time
  • #4 You can do it!

3.)  Building a Team

  • Recruited 6 local Geo-Professionals with a broad background of contacts and knowledge about the industry.
  • Make sure they are willing to put sometime into the project

4.) Plan

  • Have lunch – brainstorming and getting to know eachother
  • Identify basic structure of event
  • Identify venue options
  • Hand out tasks
  • Pick a name
  • Find money – who can be a sponsor?
